Youth Soccer Information

Dear Soccer Participants,

We thank you for registering your child to participate in our Youth Soccer Program this year. We strive to make your family’s experience an enjoyable one. We hope that your participation in youth soccer will instill a passion for the game of soccer in you and your child. We aim to teach participants the value of teamwork, sportsmanship, fair play and physical fitness while teaching and improving the fundamental skills of the game. Please review the information in this packet and feel free to contact us with any questions you may have. We can be reached by telephone between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday, at (386) 362-3004.

The first day of soccer practices will be Monday, December 11th. We anticipate starting games on Saturday, January 6th with the season concluding on Saturday, February 10th.

We offer four age divisions of play in our youth soccer program:

6U – for players 5 and 6 years of age; games are played 6 v 6 (with a goalie)

8U – for player 7 and 8 years of age; games are played 8 v 8 (includes the goalie)

10U – for players 9 and 10 years of age; games are played 9 v 9 (includes the goalie)

13U – for players 11 through 13 years of age; games are played 11 v 11 (includes the goalie)

Coaches Meeting:

All coaches participating in the youth soccer program must attend the Coaches Meeting scheduled for Monday, December 4thth at 6:00 pm at the Passenger Depot located at 210 North Ohio Avenue. To get to the Passenger Depot, take Ohio Avenue (US 129) north from downtown, cross the railroad tracks and turn right on Haines Street. The parking lot will be on the right hand side.

Player Drafts:

8U, 10U and 13U teams will be formed through a player draft. Coaches’ children will be drafted to the team their parent is coaching. Siblings in the same age division will be teamed together unless otherwise specified. Please arrive early to your scheduled player draft and have your child dressed ready to participate, including cleats, shin guards and weather appropriate athletic clothing. Player drafts are scheduled for the following dates and times:

8U – Tuesday, December 5th @ 6:00 pm on Field 2

10U – Thursday, December 7th @ 6:00 pm on Field 3

13U – Friday, December 8th @ 6:00 pm on Field 1

Your coach will contact you within 48 hours after your draft to inform you of your practice schedule.

Please note that there is no player draft for the 6U division. Teams in this age division will be formed by Suwannee Parks & Recreation staff. We will attempt to balance 6U teams equally by age and gender.

For those players in the 6U division, your coach will contact you no later than December 10th to inform you of your scheduled practice times.

Shin Guards and Cleats:

All players must furnish their own shin guards and cleats for every practice and game. Players will not be permitted to participate without shin guards. Cleats must be made of rubber or plastic and cannot have a cleat under the front toe area of the shoe. No metal cleats or baseball/football style cleats are allowed.

Soccer Balls:

We encourage each player to bring their own ball with them to each practice. Coaches have been provided with a limited number of soccer balls and players will develop their skills faster if everyone has a ball to practice with. Make sure you know what size soccer ball your player needs and make sure to write their name on the ball for easy identification.

6U – Uses a Size 3 soccer ball

8U – Uses a Size 4 soccer ball

10U – Uses a Size 4 soccer ball

13U – Uses a Size 5 soccer ball

Practices are scheduled to begin on Monday, December 11th. All teams will practice the last week of school before the Suwannee School District Christmas Break. During Christmas Break, coaches may hold optional practices with players that are available to practice. Do not worry if you will be out of town over the holidays and miss a practice! Normal practices will resume after Christmas Break.

Games are tentatively scheduled to begin on Saturday, January 6th.
